Scene 1: An afroamerican woman in her fourties was arrested because she didn\u2019t offer her seat in the bus to a white person.<\/span><\/p>\n

Scene 2: An afroamerican man about the same age was arrested by policemen and pinned to the ground until he suffocated.<\/span><\/p>\n

The connection between both scenes is the fact, that black people are unfortunately often treated very badly by white people, in a cruel and racist way. To such an extent, that both situations triggered massive protests.<\/span><\/p>\n

What distinguishes both scenes are 65 years. It\u2019s a shocking fact that there hasn\u2019t been much improvement in all these years. The death of George Floyd in 2020 initiated the so called \u201eBlack Lives Matter\u201c movement which spread awareness of the movement throughout the entire world to bring an end to racism.<\/span><\/p>\n

Head of class and English teacher Justinne Birg-Khalife worked with her 4bi class on this very difficult and important issue. They learned about the history of racism and also about the biographies of famous black people.<\/span><\/p>\n

They heard for instance of Rosa Parks (that\u2019s the woman from scene 1), Nelson Mandela, Barack Obama or Martin Luther King. The pupils chose two of them, man and woman, and had to write their biographies \u2013 in English of course. Last but not least, they had to present their findings to their classmates. A very cool project!<\/span><\/p>\n

Erste Szene: Eine afroamerikanische Frau Anfang 40 wird verhaftet, weil sie ihren Sitzplatz im Bus nicht f\u00fcr einen wei\u00dfen Fahrgast hergegeben hat.<\/p>\n

Zweite Szene: Ein afroamerikanischer Mann \u00e4hnlichen Alters wird von Polizisten angehalten und von einem derart am Boden fixiert, dass er erstickt.<\/p>\n

Was die beiden Szenen verbindet ist, dass schwarze Menschen von wei\u00dfen Menschen leider immer wieder auf das Gr\u00f6bste unangemessen, ungerecht und rassistisch behandelt werden. Dergestalt, dass es danach in beiden F\u00e4llen zu weitreichenden Protesten kam.<\/p>\n

Was die beiden Szenen trennt, sind 65 Jahre. In all der Zeit hat sich schockierender Weise nicht allzu viel ver\u00e4ndert.  Der Tod von George Floyd 2020 hatte die sogenannte \u201eBlack Lives Matter\u201c Bewegung zur Folge, die sich seither \u00fcber die ganze Welt verbreitet und hoffentlich mithelfen wird, dem Rassismus die Stirn zu bieten.<\/p>\n

Klassenvorstand und Fachlehrerin Justinne Birg-Khalife hat nun dieses schwierige, aber wichtige Thema mit ihrer Klasse, der 4bi in Englisch behandelt. Nicht nur die Geschichte des Kampfes gegen Rassismus war Gegenstand des Unterrichts, sondern vor allem auch die Vita vieler ber\u00fchmter schwarzer Menschen.<\/p>\n

Als Beispiele seien hier Rosa Parks (das ist die Frau aus der ersten Szene), Nelson Mandela, Barack Obama und Martin Luther King genannt. Die Sch\u00fclerinnen und Sch\u00fcler suchten sich zwei Personen, einen Mann und eine Frau, aus und verfassten deren Biografien. Auf Englisch nat\u00fcrlich!
